The North American Conference on Ethiopian Jewry (NACOEJ) is a non-profit organization founded in 1982 with four mandates:

• To help Ethiopian Jews survive in Ethiopia.
  

  Ethiopian Jews have a rich and storied history that dates back centuries. The vibrant Ethiopian Jewish culture is a tapestry of traditions, including unique religious practices and customs passed down through generations. Ethiopian Jews have preserved their cultural traditions, blending Hebrew biblical customs with influences from their Ethiopian heritage. We provide ongoing aid to help Ethiopian Jewry maintain the continuity of these communities and promote Jewish life and Jewish heritage in Ethiopia.

• To assist each Ethiopian Jew in reaching Israel.
  

  Originating from the northern regions of Ethiopia, the journey of Ethiopian Jews to Israel, known as aliyah, has been a testament to resilience and faith. Following the Ethiopian aliyah, the integration of Jewish Ethiopians into Israeli society has faced challenges, but their vibrant community in cities like Tel Aviv and Be'er Sheba continues to thrive. This diverse group contributes to the tapestry of Israeli life, enriching it with its colorful traditions and deep-rooted identity. Despite facing challenges, Ethiopian Jews have contributed significantly to Israeli society, enriching the cultural fabric with their distinct heritage and resilience. The story of each Ethiopian Israeli embodies the power of faith, perseverance, and the enduring spirit of a community united by history and faith. With more than 12,000 Jews still living in Ethiopia our goal is to assist in the aliyah process and transition of these Ethiopian Jews to Israel.

Their journey to Israel, often fraught with challenges and resilience, reflects a unique narrative of integration and perseverance. Within Israeli communities, Jews of Ethiopian origin have made significant contributions, enriching the social fabric through their vibrant heritage and strong sense of identity. As they navigate contemporary Israeli society, Jews of Ethiopian descent continue to uphold their customs, while actively participating in various aspects of Israeli life, shaping a dynamic and inclusive nation.
  In Israel, Ethiopian Jews strongly emphasize Jewish education to preserve their cultural heritage and deepen their connection to Judaism. Despite facing challenges, such as language barriers and cultural differences, many Ethiopian Jewish communities actively participate in ongoing Jewish education programs. Ethiopian Jews education programs not only focus on religious studies but also incorporate Israel studies to help them integrate into their new homeland. By engaging in Jewish education, Ethiopian Jews in Israel are not only strengthening their Jewish identity but also fostering a sense of belonging and continuity within Israeli society. It serves as a cornerstone for their cultural and spiritual growth in their new environment and the aid we provide helps to maintain and grow these programs every year
